Setting up the rinsing port Connecting the tubing Pump tubes and retaining hooks The pump tubes have three collars, giving two sections that can be tensioned around the pump rotor. If one section of a tube becomes deformed, and there is no other damage, you can use the other section. Pump tubes of different internal diameter are available so that you can vary the flow rate of the rinse liquid through the rinsing port. The pump tubes have colored collars for easy identification. Pump tube Color (collars) The retaining hooks on the rinse pump have an inside channel for the rinse feed pump tube and an outside channel for the drain pump tube (see Figure 9). There are slots for the pump tubes on the top and bottom of each retaining hook; the slots on the top are for tubes with narrower diameter, while the slots on the bottom are for tubes with wider diameter. Tubing configurations You can set up several different tubing configurations to meet the given requirements. • Configuration 1. The rinse pump is used to pump rinse liquid into the rinsing port and to pump the liquid back out into the waste bottle. A narrow-bore pump tube (B314-0730; red-red) is used for the rinse feed to provide a slow flow rate of the rinse liquid. This is the preferred configuration for ICP-OES and ICP-MS applications. • Configuration 2. The rinse pump is used to pump rinse liquid into the rinsing port and to pump the liquid back out into the waste bottle. A wide-bore pump tube (B314-0721; violet-white) is used for the rinse feed to provide a fast flow rate of the rinse liquid. This is the preferred configuration for flame AAS applications. • Configuration 3. The rinse pump is used to pump rinse liquid into the rinsing port only. The drain tube is connected to the rinsing port directly and the liquid drains by gravity into the waste bottle. A wide-bore pump tube (B314-0721; violetwhite) is used for the rinse feed to provide a fast flow rate of the rinse liquid. AS9N010B.STB 31 of 68
