Then Peter said to them, "You yourselvesknow how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or tovisit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that Ishould not call any person common or unclean.” (Acts10/28).We notice here that Peter did not mention that Jesus (PBUH) askedthem to do so, but he said “to us who had been chosen by Godas witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rosefrom the dead. And he commanded us to preach to thepeople.” (Acts 10/41-42), meaning the Jews only.When he returned to Jerusalem, he faced more blame. “So whenPeter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision partycriticized him, saying, "You went to uncircumcised menand ate with them.” (Acts 11/2-3) Then he told them about hisdream, of eating with the gentiles, “But Peter began andexplained it to them in order: "I was in the city of Joppapraying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like agreat sheet descending, being let down from heaven by itsfour corners, and it came down to me. Looking at it closely,I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles andbirds of the air. And I heard a voice saying to me, 'Rise,Peter; kill and eat. But I said, 'By no means, Lord; fornothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.But the voice answered a second time from heaven, 'WhatGod has made clean, do not call common. This happenedthree times, and all was drawn up again into heaven.” (Acts11/4-10), and how the Holy Spirit came and asked him to go: “Andthe Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction.These six brothers also accompanied me.” (Acts 11/12)After this convincing explanation from Peter, the disciples agreed tolet him go to preach to the gentiles. “When they heard thesethings they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, "Thento the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leadsto life.” (Acts 11/18)
