(١٢١)IS ALLAH (S.W) ONE OR THREE?First: The First Nicene CouncilIn 325 C.E., by the <strong>or</strong>der of the Pagan emper<strong>or</strong> Constantine, whodeclared a few years bef<strong>or</strong>e, the law of the religious indulgence inthe empire -The Nicene Council - was f<strong>or</strong>med.Constantine realized that the conflict between Chr<strong>is</strong>tian churche<strong>sw</strong>as affecting the people in the empire, and threatening the ex<strong>is</strong>tenceof the country. Thus, he decided to set up a general councilgathering all Chr<strong>is</strong>tian parties. He personally set up the council, and2048 priests from different churches were present. The negotiationslasted f<strong>or</strong> <strong>three</strong> months without agreeing on <strong>one</strong> opinion.The emper<strong>or</strong> conciliated the conflicting parties, and they presentedthe Nicene Creed, which made the belief in Jesus’ (PBUH) divinity anofficial belief f<strong>or</strong> Chr<strong>is</strong>tians and then f<strong>or</strong> the Roman Empire.The Nicene Council did not d<strong>is</strong>cuss the Holy Spirit <strong>or</strong> h<strong>is</strong> divinity. Thenegotiations about him continued between churches until they settledthe matter at the First Council of Constantinople.Second: The First Council of ConstantinopleThe First Council of Constantinople was f<strong>or</strong>med in 381 C.E., tod<strong>is</strong>cuss Macedonius, the Arian who was the b<strong>is</strong>hop ofConstantinople, who denied the divinity of the Holy Spirit. He said,“The Holy Spirit <strong>is</strong> a divine w<strong>or</strong>k spread in the w<strong>or</strong>ld, he <strong>is</strong> not adivine person, who <strong>is</strong> different from the Father and the Son.”The council was f<strong>or</strong>med by <strong>or</strong>der of the emper<strong>or</strong> Theodosius I (D.395C.E.). One hundred and fifty b<strong>is</strong>hops were present, deciding to annulthe Arian belief. In addition, they decided that the Holy Spirit <strong>is</strong>Allah’s (S.W) spirit and H<strong>is</strong> life, and that he <strong>is</strong> the third hypostas<strong>is</strong> ofthe Trinity, and they added <strong>one</strong> passage to the Nicene Creed; thus,the Trinity became the official creed of Chr<strong>is</strong>tianity.There were many monothe<strong>is</strong>ts, who in spite of their min<strong>or</strong>contribution and presence refuted the Trinity and Jesus’ (PBUH)divinity even after the Nicene Council f<strong>or</strong> many centuries, despite theex<strong>is</strong>tence of the church’s power and auth<strong>or</strong>ity.The reason f<strong>or</strong> th<strong>is</strong> min<strong>or</strong> contribution and presence was theex<strong>is</strong>tence of the Inqu<strong>is</strong>itions and the churches’ power.
