Thousands of newsarticles <strong>in</strong> <strong>2010</strong> traced crackdowns <strong>in</strong> Iran and Ch<strong>in</strong>a, but Google Newsrecorded fewer than 80 s<strong>to</strong>ries <strong>on</strong> Runet censorship. Given CPJ researchshow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>on</strong>go<strong>in</strong>g violence aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>on</strong>l<strong>in</strong>e reporters, <strong>in</strong>timidati<strong>on</strong> of Webjournals, and technological attacks <strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong>dependent websites, <strong>the</strong> dearthof news <strong>on</strong> Runet censorship shows not <strong>the</strong> absence of repressi<strong>on</strong> but its<strong>in</strong>sidious effectiveness.
