Anofficial named <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> s<strong>to</strong>ry, presidential adviser Thierno Ousmane Sy, so<strong>on</strong>filed a crim<strong>in</strong>al defamati<strong>on</strong> compla<strong>in</strong>t aga<strong>in</strong>st La Gazette. Coulibaly andtwo colleagues were f<strong>in</strong>ed a <strong>to</strong>tal of 20 milli<strong>on</strong> CFA francs (US$39,000),although <strong>the</strong>y appealed.Sy’s fa<strong>the</strong>r, Justice M<strong>in</strong>ister Cheikh Tidiane Sy, <strong>the</strong>n brought additi<strong>on</strong>alcrim<strong>in</strong>al charges of “handl<strong>in</strong>g s<strong>to</strong>len adm<strong>in</strong>istrative documents” aga<strong>in</strong>stCoulibaly <strong>in</strong> c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong> with a 2007 s<strong>to</strong>ry about corrupti<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> nati<strong>on</strong>allottery.
