The two were victims of a staged barroom brawl <strong>in</strong> July2009, and were arrested <strong>the</strong>mselves for “hooliganism.” The two were freed<strong>in</strong> November pend<strong>in</strong>g appeal. Milli faced a pris<strong>on</strong> sentence of two and ahalf years, and Hajizade a term of two years.The circumstances of <strong>the</strong>ir arrest were strik<strong>in</strong>gly similar <strong>to</strong> those <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>gGenimet Zakhidov, edi<strong>to</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> Baku-based, pro-oppositi<strong>on</strong> dailyAzadlyg. Zakhidov, released from pris<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> March after serv<strong>in</strong>g more thantwo years, was also jailed <strong>on</strong> “hooliganism” charges.
