country, <strong>the</strong> most prom<strong>in</strong>ent be<strong>in</strong>g 24 Chasa, bought <strong>the</strong><br />
newspaper. 8 Trud is well-known for publish<strong>in</strong>g trivial news<br />
items; however, its <strong>in</strong>vestigative report<strong>in</strong>g is a respected<br />
feature, specifically when mak<strong>in</strong>g revelations about <strong>the</strong><br />
country’s political elite. 9<br />

Founded <strong>in</strong> 1992, Standart is owned by a private news<br />
agency, Standart News, and was <strong>the</strong> first Bulgarian newspaper<br />
to be published both <strong>in</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>t and onl<strong>in</strong>e. 10 The<br />
newspaper also features an English version on its website<br />
and has a current circulation <strong>of</strong> about 100,000, mak<strong>in</strong>g it<br />
one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most widely read newspapers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country. 11<br />
At <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> its launch, <strong>the</strong> newspaper targeted bus<strong>in</strong>esssavvy<br />
and <strong>in</strong>tellectual audiences; however, s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> turn <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> century, its readership has shifted to a less-educated<br />
demographic, as <strong>the</strong> nature <strong>of</strong> its report<strong>in</strong>g became predom<strong>in</strong>antly<br />
tabloid-like. It cont<strong>in</strong>ues to feature a wide range<br />
<strong>of</strong> topics, from economics to revelations about Bulgarian<br />
celebrities, this range is suggested as <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> reason for<br />

Part <strong>of</strong> "Economedia", <strong>the</strong> largest private group <strong>of</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
media <strong>in</strong> Bulgaria, Dnevnik was launched <strong>in</strong> 1999 follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>the</strong> success <strong>of</strong> Kapital, a weekly bus<strong>in</strong>ess newspaper widely-recognized<br />
for its thorough, <strong>in</strong>dependent economic and<br />
political analysis. 13 Dnevnik has featured a popular onl<strong>in</strong>e<br />
edition, target<strong>in</strong>g ma<strong>in</strong>ly bus<strong>in</strong>ess audiences as well as <strong>in</strong>tellectuals,<br />
who, for over 10 years have been attracted by<br />
<strong>the</strong> newspaper's <strong>in</strong>dependent and pr<strong>of</strong>essional report<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
On October 31, 2011, with <strong>the</strong> launch <strong>of</strong> Kapital Daily, <strong>the</strong><br />
new pr<strong>in</strong>t edition Economedia <strong>of</strong>fers to its valued bus<strong>in</strong>ess-<br />
