RIDSDALE-DIETERTSHELL MOULD TRANSVERSE ACCESSORY (AFS)IGENERAL PRINCIPLESThe Shell Mould Transverse Accessory (AFS) provides a means of making 1 inch x 4 inchesx ¼ inch transverse specimens, and of determining their breaking strengths in conjunctionwith the Transverse Shell Strength Accessory for the Universal Sand Strength Machine.IIDESCRIPTIONThe Shell Mould Transverse Accessory (AFS) includes a split 2-cavity pattern (former plates)for making ¼ inch thick transverse specimens, and a hopper strike-off assembly,IIITEST PROCEDURE(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)Heat the base plate to approximately 200 °C in an oven (or enclosed stove).Stand the hopper strike-off assembly on to its broad edge and fill with pre-coatedsand mixture so that the mixture in the two pockets is level with the ends.Place a pair of COLD split moulds in position on the heated base plates.Spray all surfaces coming into contact with the sand mixture with a silicone (mould)release agent.Rest the strike-off edge of the hopper strike-off assembly against the edge of theopen cavities of the pattern, and dump the sand into the cavities in one swift motion.99
