RIDSDALE GAS DETERMINATOR (cont’d)VIMAINTENANCE (cont’d)(a)Replacement of Furnace Elements (cont’d)If the customer decides to fit the element himself, the furnace unit should bewithdrawn from the console as follows :-(i)(ii)(iii)(iv)(v)(vi)(vii)(viii)(ix)(x)(xi)(xii)Disconnect from the mains.Remove the top left hand side panel from the console.Remove the screws from the panel holding the temperature control unitsituated top left hand front of console.Slide the module out until the thermocouple terminal block is exposed.Disconnect the thermocouple.Carefully withdraw the thermocouple.Remove the main input leads from the two brass terminal posts.Remove the eight securing screws from the perimeter of the Sindanyo endplateon the right hand side of the console.Carefully withdraw the whole furnace unit, slacken the bolts holding theelement tails in the brass terminal posts and remove the Sindanyo top platesecured by four screws.Empty out the Vermiculite insulation. Loosen the retaining yokes and removethe faulty element and former.Fit replacement element supplied by the furnace manufacturer and reassemble,taking care to ensure that the element tails do not come in contactwith the cement coated windings or a short circuit will occur.After re-assembly bring the furnace up to temperature as quickly as possibleto ensure the effective curing of the cement used on the windings.PLEASE NOTE:THERE ARE LIVE WIRES INSIDE THE CASING.
