RIDSDALE-DIETERTGREEN COMPRESSION STRENGTH MACHINE (AFS)IGENERAL PRINCIPLESThis machine is designed to determine compression strength of prepared specimens ofgreen sands and unbaked core sands by applying a progressively increasing spring load tothe specimen until it collapses.IIDESCRIPTIONThe machine consists of a spring balance and a pair of self-aligning compression heads allsupported in a strong metal frame. By means of a hand-wheel, a load can be applied to asand specimen held in the compression heads, via the spring balance. The load required tocause the specimen to collapse is recorded on the dial of the spring balance by means of aslave pointer which indicates the compression strength in psi using an AFS 2 inch diameter x2 inch height specimen.80
