BASE PERMEABILITY SCREENSThe base permeability is a standard comparison of permeability with zero water and zeroclay. It compares all sands on an equal basis.TEST PROCEDUREPlace a Base Permeability Screen in the end of the specimen tube so that the flange facesupward when the tube is seated in the pedestal cup.Either weigh or measure the proper amount of dried clay-free sand to give a 2 inch (50 mm)length rammed specimen.Before ramming, place the second Screen in the specimen tube on top of the sand, with theflange facing downwards.Ram with three drops of the weight.Remove the tube carefully from the rammer and attach it to the Permeability Meter.
