RIDSDALE-DIETERTTENSILE CORE STRENGTH ACCESSORY FOR USSM (<strong>AFS</strong>) (cont’d)IVTEST PROCEDURE(a)Insert a prepared <strong>AFS</strong> (1 inch thick central section) standard tensile specimen intothe jaws of the accessory as follows :-Raise the pendulum weight arm slightly, allowing the jaws to butt together, and placethe specimen carefully in position without scoring it.(b)Adjust the fulcrum screws so that a clearance of approximately 1 inch is obtainedbetween the rubber bumper on the pusher arm and the bottom lug on the pendulumweight arm.NOTE:After adjustment the jaws must be free to swivel on the end of the fulcrum screws.(c)(d)(e)REMOVE THE GUIDE PINS.Apply the load in the recommended manner until the specimen breaks.Read the “Dry Shear” scale and multiply the reading by 5 to give tensile strength inlb/in 2 .VRECOMMENDED SPARESPart NoDescription2901 Guide pin2902 Adjusting screw1906 Fulcrum pin.94
