RIDSDALE SHATTER INDEX TESTER (AFS)IGENERAL PRINCIPLESThis equipment is designed to allow the free fall of an AFS Standard 2 inch diameter x 2 inchheight specimen of moulding sand from a height of 6 feet onto a steel anvil. By measuringthe degree of disintegration of the specimen the toughness or plasticity can be determined.IIDESCRIPTIONThe cast iron base of the unit is machined to accept a 13.2 mm mesh BS sieve and retainingpan. Through the centre of this assembly passes a solid steel anvil which is covered by aremovable cap onto which the sand specimen falls. Rising vertically from the rear of thebase is a 7 foot steel tube which carries the ejector mechanism for the sand specimens.77
