Placethe material in the sample pan as quickly as possible until equilibrium is obtained(any long delay during weighing may cause loss of moisture which would lead to lowresults).Remove the sample pan from balance with the special tongs and spread the sampleevenly over the base.Insert the pan into the Moisture Teller by depressing the rubber button on theextension from the pan holder. Release and ensure that the top edge of the pan fitsagainst the underside of the Moisture Teller.Rotate the time switch knob to the desired during time.When the timer switches off the motor and heater, transfer the sample pan to thecooling stand using the special tongs. When cooled to room temperature place thesample pan on the balance. Read the percentage moisture directly from the dialwithout calculation.If the sample contains more than 20% moisture use a 25 g sample and multiply thedial reading by two.(h)(i)After each test empty the sample pan and brush out any material adhering to it. Donot rap the pan on the bench as this may damage the top rim.Do not attempt to dry materials which melt and/or adhere to the base of the pan.Such materials will cause inaccurate sample weights and will clog the screen thuspreventing rapid drying.VMAINTENANCE(a)(b)(e)All AC models are fitted with induction motors with pre-packed ball bearings which donot require attention except during major overhaul by the manufacturers.As air from the atmosphere is drawn in through the top of the drying unit it isdesirable to occasionally blow out any dust with compressed air (oil free). This isfacilitated by removing the top casting which is secured by three self-tapping screwsand the bottom gauze which is held in place by a circlip.Ensure the gauze is clean and free from dust by brushing with a small stiff brush aslack of efficiency and local overheating of the element will occur if this gauzebecomes choked and restricts the flow of air through the instrument.31
