RIDSDALE-DIETERTTRANSVERSE CORE STRENGTH ACCESSORY FOR USSM (<strong>AFS</strong>) (cont’d)IIIINSTALLATION(a)Attach the support arm with the two knife edges to the pusher arm and the arm withthe single knife edge to the pendulum weight arm of the Universal <strong>Sand</strong> StrengthMachine by means of the bolts and washers provided.NOTE: Hand Operated Universal: for hand operated universal machine, when fitting thetransverse core strength and transverse shell strengthaccessory the 1¾” bolt will be substituted with a 1½”bolt.Motorised Universal: secure the left hand part of the accessory with a 1½”long x ¼” BSW* bolt plus collar in the top position and a1¾” x ¼” BSW* bolt with a flat washer in the bottomposition.The right hand part of the accessory will be securedwith a ½” x ¼” BSW* bolt with a stepped collar in topand bottom positions.IVTEST PROCEDURE(a)(b)(c)Insert the core specimen between the arms as shown in the illustration, carefullyavoiding any scoring the specimen by the knife edges.Apply the load in the recommended manner until the specimen breaks.Read the “Dry Shear” scale direct in pounds load supported by the core.VRECOMMENDED SPARESPart No.Description2005 Stepped collar.* BSW is British Standard Whitworth thread.96
