Lift the indicator arm to the right so that it comes to reston the stop bracket and does not interfere with the action of the rammer.Ram the sand with three drops of the rammer or to a chosen mould hardness. Movethe indicator arm until it rests on the top of the rammer plunger and read the densityof the rammed sand in pounds per cubic foot on the left hand scale.If the density is less than 88 pounds per cubic foot use a sample weight of 150 gramsand proceed as outlined above, reading the right hand scale.To obtain the weight of sand needed to form an <strong>AFS</strong> 2 inch diameter specimen,weigh out 165 grams of sand, ram in the usual manner and read the weight in gramson the centre scale.42
