RIDSDALE-DIETERTTRANSVERSE RAMMING ACCESSORY (AFS)IGENERAL PRINCIPLESThe Transverse Ramming Accessory is required to prepare AFS standard transversespecimens on the AFS Laboratory Sand Rammer.IIDESCRIPTIONThis accessory consists of :-A split metal core box, a sand hopper, a base plate, four drying plates, a spring steel cut-offknife, a strickling plate and a ramming head which clamps on to the 2 inch diameter ramhead.IIIINSTALLATIONClamp the ramming head onto the rammer shaft in the position shown in the illustrationusing the bolts and collar supplied. Tighten the securing bolts evenly and just sufficiently togrip the ram end without distorting the collar.IVTEST PROCEDURE(a)(b)Assemble the core box and hopper on the base plate with both markers on the sameend and insert a drying plate in the bottom of the core box.Fill the box with sand to the top of the hopper and strike off level with the strickleplate, ensuring that there are no open pockets in the sand.49
