Preventive maintenance must commence with installation, and must<br />

continue during the warranty period to maintain the warranty. Thermo<br />

Fisher Scientific offers maintenance and service contracts. Contact your<br />

local Thermo Fisher Scientific office for more information. Routine and<br />

infrequent maintenance procedures are listed in Table 3-1.<br />

To successfully carry out the procedures listed in this chapter, observe<br />

the following rules:<br />

• Proceed methodically<br />

• Always wear clean, lint-free gloves when handling the components<br />

of the API source, ion optics, mass analyzer, and ion detection<br />

system.<br />

• Always place the components on a clean, lint-free surface.<br />

• Always cover the opening in the top of the vacuum manifold with a<br />

large, lint-free tissue whenever you remove the top cover plate of the<br />

vacuum manifold.<br />

• Never overtighten a screw or use excessive force.<br />

• Dirty tools can contaminate your system. Keep the tools clean and<br />

use them exclusively for maintenance and service work at the<br />

<strong>LTQ</strong> <strong>Orbitrap</strong> <strong>XL</strong>.<br />

• Never insert a test probe (for example, an oscilloscope probe) into<br />

the sockets of female cable connectors on PCBs.<br />
