When asked for more detail about why they thought thesegroups weren’t engaged as much as other people they said:it means pulling resources from other parts of the hospitalthere are a number of different types of disability, not sure if they get a the chance toconsult with a range of people – probably the usual suspectsRespondents were asked what if anything could be done to improve the approach local NHSTrusts take when consulting and engaging with local people. Responses included:have meetings to explain to public the merger in terminology they understand. Also tohave regular meetings inviting service users with access needsadvertise public meetings more obviously; have material printed in many languages,have interpreters presentsometimes it’s just ticking the box - people need to feel their views are valuedsend out letters to locals, again if change is happening every three years it is a waste ofresources as what happened over the last ten yearsmore openness and share the views with local members of publicnothing - I think that we are well consultedconsult larger numbers of people from more diverse backgrounds, allow more time forconsultations, not take decisions before consulting, make it easier for people to take partRespondents were asked, from what they know about the merger, whether they thought itwas a good idea or not.
