Combined projections for allthree boroughs show that Bangladeshi people are the largest BAME group, followed byBlack African and Pakistani people.It should be noted that a significant drawback to the GLA projection data – at least in theformat we were able to secure - is that it does not provide specific details of people from‘mixed’ ethnicities. ‘Mixed’ ethnicities are included as part of the broader ‘other’ category. Forexample, ‘Black other’ includes ‘Mixed: White and Black Caribbean’, Mixed: White and BlackAfrican as well as ‘Other Black’. (The Annual Population Survey does distinguish Mixedethnicities as separate categories see figure 3.1a.)3.3 Local language habitsThe following chart provides additional information about language habits of the localpopulation. It shows that, when compared to London and the UK, all three boroughs in thecatchment area have a higher proportion of adults who do not speak English at home andpupils whose first language is not English. Newham has the highest proportion of adults whodo not speak English at home, whereas Tower Hamlets has the highest proportion of pupilswhose first language is not English.99
