10 Flue system10 Flue system10.1 Requirements10.1.1 Standards, regulations and directivesFlues must be resistant to moisture, flue gas and corrosivecondensate.The following are the applicable technical rules andregulations in this context:• The relevant Building Regulations and FireRegulations.• DIN 4702-6 Floor standing residential conventionalboilers; floor standing condensing boilers forgaseous fuels.• DIN EN 13384-1 Calculating chimney dimensions• DIN 18160-1, 18160-2, 18160-5 and 18160-6Domestic chimneys.10.1.2 General notes• Use only flues that conform to building regulations.• Observe the requirements in the approval notice.• Size the flue system correctly (essential for correctfunction and safe boiler operation).• Design the ventilated cross-section between thechimney shaft and the flue so it can be inspected.• Install flues so they can be replaced.• Provide secondary ventilation for flues that operatewith positive pressure.• In the case of a circular flue in a rectangular chimneyshaft, ensure a clearance between flue and shaft wallsof at least 2 cm; in the case of a circular flue in acircular shaft, ensure at least 3 cm.As a basis for calculation and for sizing the flue system,apply the details in tab. 50 to tab. 52 on page 93 ff. Therequirements for the flue system and flue gas routing canbe derived from the results of the calculation and must bediscussed with the local flue gas inspector [whereappropriate] prior to constructing the heating system.10.1.3 Material requirements• The flue material must be resistant to the flue gastemperatures that can occur. It must be resistantagainst moisture and acidic condensate. Stainlesssteel and plastic flues are suitable.• Flues are categorised according to the maximum fluegas temperature for which they are suitable(80 °C, 120 °C, 160 °C and 200 °C). The flue gastemperature can be below 40 °C. Moisture-resistantchimneys must therefore also be suitable fortemperatures below 40 °C. All suitable flues must beapproved by the "Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik" inBerlin.• Generally, protection should be provided by a high limitsafety cut-out when a heat source is combined with aflue designedfor low flue gas temperatures. This requirement can bedisregarded as it has been verified that the maximumpermissible flue gas temperature of 120 °C forcategory B flues is not exceeded for the Logano plusSB315, SB615 and SB745 floor standing condensingboilers.• Positive pressure is likely to occur inside the fluesystem since condensing boilers operate with positivepressure. If the flue system is routed through occupiedrooms, install it in a chimney shaft with secondaryventilation along the entire length. Flue system1010.1.4 Plastic flue systemFlue systems matched to the floor standing gascondensing boilers are available for positive pressureoperation up to DN315. These flue systems are madefrom polypropylene (PP). They have building regulationapproval [Germany] for flue gas temperatures up to120 °C. All systems are supplied ready to plug in; nowelding is required.Special boiler connection pieces are available to connectto the boiler.Legal requirementsWhen designing a flue system, consult the responsibleflue gas inspector. This must be made from noncombustiblerigid material.Required fire resistance time:• 90 minutes (fire resistance category F90)• 30 minutes (fire resistance category F30, in singlestorey buildings).Any existing chimney that has been in use before must becleaned professionally and thoroughly prior to running theflue into it.
