32Basic Theories - Meridian and CollateralCode Term Chinese Definition/Description1.4.19triple energizermeridian (TE)手 少 陽 三 焦 經one of the twelve regular meridians which runs fromguanchong (TE1) at the ulnar side of the ring finger,travels along the midline of the posterior side of thearm and through the regions of the shoulder, neck,ear and eye, and terminates at sizhukong (TE23) atthe lateral aspect of canthus. A branch is sent fromthe supraclavicular fossa to the pericardium anddown through the thorax and abdomen, linking theupper, middle and lower energizers. There are 23acupuncture points on either side of the body1.4.20gallbladder meridian(GB)足 少 陽 膽 經one of the twelve regular meridians which runsfrom tongziliao (GB1) at the lateral canthus of theeye, through the regions of the temple, ear, neck,shoulder, flank, and the outer side of the lower limb,terminating at zuqiaoyin (GB44) on the lateral sideof the tip of the 4th toe. The post-auricular branchtravels into the ear and down to the supraclavicularfossa where it joins the original branch. It continuesdown into the chest, past the diaphragm, connectingwith the gallbladder and liver, and travels down tothe lower abdomen into the inguinal canal. Thedorsal foot branch leaves the main meridian at zulinqi(GB41) and descends between the first and secondmetatarsals, terminating at the base of the great toenail. There are 44 acupuncture points on either sideof the body1.4.21 liver meridian (LR) 足 厥 陰 肝 經1.4.22 main meridian 正 經one of the twelve regular meridians which runsfrom dadun (LR1) on the medial aspect of the bigtoe just behind the nail, through the inner side ofthe lower limb, external genitalia and abdomen, toqimen (LR14), a point about 2 cun below the nipple.From qimen (LR14) the meridian/channel entersthe abdomen, traverses through the stomach paralaterallyto connect with the liver and gallbladder.From the liver, the meridian/channel ascends pastthe diaphragm along the trachea, larynx, sinus cavity,connecting with the eye, and then ascends to thevertex where it meets the governor vessel at baihui(GV20). There are 14 acupuncture points on eitherside of the bodyanother name of twelve meridians, also called regularmeridian1.4.23 extra meridian 奇 經 an abbreviation for eight extra meridians
