ADMISSION AND ENROLLMENTGeneral Information and OrientationBefore the beginning <strong>of</strong> each academic session, UMUC holdsinformation sessions online and in the <strong>Maryland</strong> area for newand prospective students. An orientation to graduate study isalso held annually at UMUC’s Adelphi headquarters before thefall session. These events <strong>of</strong>fer an opportunity to learn aboutUMUC and its programs, student services, academic and careeroptions, faculty members, and fellow students. Prospective studentscan be admitted and register for courses during the onsiteopen houses. An online orientation to graduate study atUMUC is also available at www.umuc.edu/grad/orientation.For general information or to be directed to specific <strong>of</strong>fices, studentsmay call 800-888-UMUC (8682). Phone representativesare available for general information from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.,Monday through Saturday. Most UMUC <strong>of</strong>fices are openweekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. eastern time.AdmissionAdmission RequirementsFor master’s degree and certificate programs, most applicantswho have graduated from a regionally accredited degree-grantinguniversity or college are eligible for admission. Transcripts arerequired, but Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or GraduateManagement Admission Test (GMAT) scores are not. (Informationon optional submission <strong>of</strong> GMAT scores for enrollmentin the MBA program is provided on p. 11.) Some graduate programsalso require the submission <strong>of</strong> additional informationbefore an admission decision can be made (more details areprovided under individual program descriptions).Executive Programs require five years <strong>of</strong> management experiencein addition to the above (more details are on p. 54).To be eligible to apply for the doctoral program, students musthave a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or universitywith a grade point average <strong>of</strong> at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scalebefore the application deadline (or permission <strong>of</strong> the department)and at least seven years <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional experience. Since admissionto the doctoral program is competitive, prospective students may wishto take the GMAT or GRE to enhance their candidacy.Admission ProceduresApplicants for graduate certificate and master’s degree programsmust complete and submit the graduate admission application,pay the nonrefundable fee, and provide an <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript indicatingcompletion <strong>of</strong> a bachelor’s (or higher) degree from a regionallyaccredited degree-granting university or college. Applicationsfor admission are accepted throughout the year.Information on documentation required for admission to the doctoralprogram or Executive Programs is provided on pp. 10 and54. The doctoral program<strong>of</strong>fice may be contacted at 800-888-UMUC, ext. 6745.Students may apply to all UMUC graduate programs online viaMyUMUC at https://my.umuc.edu.Determination <strong>of</strong> Residency for Tuition PurposesAn initial determination <strong>of</strong> in-state or out-<strong>of</strong>-state status fortuition purposes is made when a student applies for admission.The determination made at that time remains in effect thereafterunless it is successfully challenged. The student is responsible forproviding the information necessary to establish eligibility for instatestatus. Official criteria for determining residency are in thesection on <strong>University</strong> Policies on p. 156. Information on tuitionand fees may be found on p. 118.ReadmissionStudents who have not enrolled in graduate classes at UMUCfor more than a two-year period must complete a new applicationfor admission.Students who were academically dismissed from the GraduateSchool <strong>of</strong> Management and Technology will not be consideredfor readmission.International ApplicantsTo be considered for admission, international students must present• Official documents indicating successful completion <strong>of</strong> theequivalent <strong>of</strong> a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.Applicants educated in countries other than the United Statesmust have their <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts evaluated by an independentevaluation service. The evaluation organization will send a copy<strong>of</strong> the evaluation both to the applicant and to the GraduateSchool <strong>of</strong> Management and Technology. UMUC accepts creditevaluations from any National Association <strong>of</strong> CredentialEvaluation Services (NACES)–approved organization, includingWorld Education Services (WES), and the AmericanAssociation <strong>of</strong> Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers(AACRAO).
