ADMISSION AND ENROLLMENTFinancial InformationTuition and FeesUMUC students are expected to make payment at the time <strong>of</strong>registration. If a student’s payment is not received by the duedate, he or she may be penalized by being disenrolled fromcourses or having his or her account balance transferred to theState Central Collections Unit.Several payment options are available to UMUC studentswho are unable to make payment at the time <strong>of</strong> registration.To find out more about payment options, students shouldvisit www.umuc.edu/paymentoptions.Payment may be made by cash, check, money order, orAmerican Express, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa credit cards.Checks should be payable to <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>University</strong><strong>College</strong>. Students who qualify for tuition assistance, financialaid, or veterans benefits should consult the appropriate sections.Students interested in the monthly payment plan, administeredby TuitionPay, should visit www.tuitionpay.com/umuc on the Webor call 800-635-0120.CURRENT TUITION AND FEESTuition rates and fees are published each session in the GraduateSchedule <strong>of</strong> Classes and are available on the Web at www.umuc.edu/tuition. Students should review the fee schedule carefully to seewhich ones apply. Fees are commonly charged for admission andgraduation applications, makeup testing, technology, and transcripts.There is also a service charge for dishonored checks.RefundsThe <strong>of</strong>ficial date used to determine a refund is either the datethe withdrawal form is hand-delivered to the Information Deskat the Student and Faculty Services Center, the date and time<strong>of</strong> the IRIS request, the date and time the change was made inMyUMUC, or the postmark date on a mailed request. The <strong>of</strong>ficialdate for federal financial aid recipients is the last date <strong>of</strong> classattendance as determined by federal regulations.Note: Students in their first enrollment period with UMUC,who are receiving financial aid (grants, work-study, or loans) andwithdraw from the institution (not merely from a course) beforecompleting 60 percent <strong>of</strong> the enrollment period for which theyhave been charged, are subject to a new federal pro-rata refundpolicy. Financial aid advisors can provide further information.REFUND FOR COURSE CANCELLATIONSThe university refunds 100 percent <strong>of</strong> tuition, technology, andregistration fees for courses canceled by the university. The applicationfee is nonrefundable, even when a course is canceled.REFUND FOR STUDENT WITHDRAWALSTuition is refunded as follows:100% Withdrawal before the class start date75% Withdrawal 1–13 calendar days after a class starts50% Withdrawal 14–20 calendar days after a class starts0% Withdrawal 21 or more calendar days after a class startsFees are nonrefundable, with the exception <strong>of</strong> technology fees,which are refundable before the first day <strong>of</strong> class. No refunds aregiven for technology fees or for tuition for noncredit coursesafter the <strong>of</strong>ficial start date <strong>of</strong> class.Note: This policy applies only to students not receiving federalfinancial aid.Dishonored ChecksFor each paper or electronic check returned to UMUC by thepayer’s bank (whether because <strong>of</strong> insufficient funds, stoppedpayment, postdating, or drawing against uncollected items),UMUC assesses a service charge <strong>of</strong> $25 (over and above anyservice charges levied by the financial institution).A student who stops payment on a check for tuition is therebyneither disenrolled nor relieved <strong>of</strong> responsibility for payingtuition and fees. Anyone whose checks for tuition or fees remaindishonored may be barred from classes.Indebtedness to the <strong>University</strong>Students who incur debts to UMUC must clear them to bepermitted to register. Requests for transcripts and diplomasare denied until all debts have been paid. Outstanding debtsare collected against refunds due the student. After a reasonableperiod <strong>of</strong> time, uncollected debts are forwarded to the CentralCollection Unit <strong>of</strong> the State Attorney General’s Office.The Board <strong>of</strong> Regents has authorized UMUC to charge students’delinquent accounts for all collection costs incurred by UMUC.The normal collection fee is 17 percent plus attorney and/or courtcosts.
