Services for Students with DisabilitiesReasonable accommodations are available for students who havedisabilities and are enrolled in any program <strong>of</strong>fered at UMUC.To allow for adequate planning, students who need accommodationsshould contact the director <strong>of</strong> Veteran and DisabledStudent Affairs at least four to six weeks before the beginning<strong>of</strong> the session.Students must request accommodations each time they register.The first time a student requests accommodation, current (withinthree years) documentation <strong>of</strong> a disability must be submitted.Depending on the disability, documentation may include secondaryschool records; medical, psychiatric, or psychologicalreports and diagnoses; or a psychoeducational evaluation. Thedocumentation must provide clear and specific evidence <strong>of</strong> adisability and recommended accommodations from a qualifiedlicensed pr<strong>of</strong>essional.All UMUC students are required to meet university policies andprocedures and the academic requirements <strong>of</strong> all graduate degreesand certificates. Students mustbe <strong>Maryland</strong> residents, U.S. citizens, or documented permanentresidents; 60 years old by the beginning date <strong>of</strong> the session forwhich they are applying; and not employed more than 20 hoursper week to qualify for this program. Golden ID students mayonly register the week before classes begin on a space-availablebasis. Benefits do not apply to Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration,Executive Programs, or 800-level courses. To request an application,students should contact Graduate Advising at 800-888-UMUC. Aid is available for students who can provefinancial need, academic merit, or both. Regardless <strong>of</strong> incomelevel, all students are urged to apply for assistance; many financingalternatives are available.General Eligibility RequirementsAn eligible applicant for UMUC need-based assistance must• Be admitted to UMUC as a regular degree-seeking or eligiblecertificate-seeking student• Be a U.S. citizen or classified as an eligible noncitizen• Be enrolled half-time (6 credits during the fall and springsessions and 3 credits during the summer) for federal loanprograms; institutional aid requires enrollment for at least3 credits• Demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward a degree orcertificate according to UMUC policy• Have a high school or GED diplomawww.umuc.edu/grad 127
