Formsare available in the Graduate Schedule <strong>of</strong> Classes and online atwww.umuc.edu/register.Students who have employer-provided tuition must be sure t<strong>of</strong>ax their registration and employer contract at the same time.Any fees not covered by the contract must be charged toAmerican Express, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa.ON-SITEWalk-in admission and registration is held in the Student andFaculty Services Center in Adelphi, <strong>Maryland</strong>, and at a number<strong>of</strong> other locations in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area.Students may register for any course <strong>of</strong>fered (regardless <strong>of</strong> locationor format) during regular <strong>of</strong>fice hours.Waiting ListIf a class is already full at the time <strong>of</strong> registration, the studenthas the option <strong>of</strong> placing his or her name on a waiting list forthat class. Students can check on class availability by visitingMyUMUC at https://my.umuc.edu.• If a space becomes available, the first student on the waitinglist will automatically be registered for it, and the charge willappear on their account. An e-mail notification <strong>of</strong> the enrollmentfrom the waiting list will be sent. If a space becomesavailable but the first student is ineligible to enroll in the class(for reasons such as failing to meet the prerequisites or beingenrolled in a class that conflicts in time), the space will go tothe next person on the waiting list.• Students who no longer want a class should remove their namefrom the waiting list to prevent the possibility <strong>of</strong> an automaticenrollment.• Students already enrolled in the maximum number <strong>of</strong> allowablecredits (6 credits) who are on a waiting list for a thirdcourse will not be registered in the third course even if spacebecomes available in the class.• Faculty members and academic advisors are not authorized toadd students to a full class.Withdrawals or Dropped CoursesStopping payment on checks for registration fees, or not paying atregistration, does not constitute an <strong>of</strong>ficial withdrawal or relieve thestudent <strong>of</strong> his or her financial obligation to UMUC. Never attendingor ceasing to attend class(es) does not constitute a withdrawal.Students who <strong>of</strong>ficially withdraw from a course receive a mark <strong>of</strong>W (described on p. 121). Graduate students must <strong>of</strong>ficially withdrawat least two weeks (14 days) before the final class.Students may withdraw from a course by four methods:• Students may access MyUMUC online at https://my.umuc.eduand follow the directions for dropping a course. The use <strong>of</strong>the student and personal identification numbers is considered<strong>of</strong>ficial authorization for the withdrawal, which is effectiveimmediately.• Students may call IRIS at 800-584-9413 and follow thedirections for dropping a course. The use <strong>of</strong> the studentand personal identification numbers is considered an <strong>of</strong>ficial“signature” authorizing the withdrawal, which is effectiveimmediately.• Students may complete a withdrawal form request to beprocessed by an advisor. The withdrawal becomes effectivethe date the form is filed with UMUC.• Students may request in writing to withdraw from a course orcourses. The letter should specify the course, course number,and section, and include the student’s full name, student IDnumber, and signature. The request should be addressed toGraduate Advising, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong>,3501 <strong>University</strong> Boulevard East, Adelphi, MD 20783. Thepostmark on the envelope becomes the <strong>of</strong>ficial date <strong>of</strong> withdrawal.Note: Because the Graduate School <strong>of</strong> Managementand Technology can only honor withdrawal requests actuallyreceived, it is recommended that students ask for a returnreceipt from the post <strong>of</strong>fice to ensure that delivery <strong>of</strong> the withdrawalwill be acknowledged.In all cases, the student should maintain a copy <strong>of</strong> the transactionfor his or her records.UMUC cannot accept withdrawals verbally over the telephone.Failure to withdraw in the required manner results in the forfeiture<strong>of</strong> any refund and may result in a failing grade. For financial aidrecipients, failure to withdraw in the required manner may resultin cancellation/reversal <strong>of</strong> financial aid rewards. It is recommendedthat the student contact a financial aid advisor before withdrawingto determine if or how this will affect his or her financial aid.www.umuc.edu/grad 117
