An overview <strong>of</strong> the managerial, strategic,and technical aspects <strong>of</strong> e-commerce functions, processes, andinteractions. Topics include an introduction to the economics <strong>of</strong>information and information products; definitions <strong>of</strong> e-commerceretailing, e-tailing, and portals; a brief history <strong>of</strong> e-commerce;e-commerce business models; the roles <strong>of</strong> e-supply chains, corporateportals, and public business-to-business exchanges; e-supportservices, auctions, and e-commerce security issues and processes;the impact <strong>of</strong> e-commerce on organizational strategy and industrystructure; in-depth assessment <strong>of</strong> successful e-commerce strategies;social, ethical, and other emerging issues related to e-commerce;and innovative e-commerce systems. Focus is on analysis and creativedevelopment <strong>of</strong> effective global marketing strategies using theWeb—one <strong>of</strong> the most significant forces to affect marketing sincethe emergence <strong>of</strong> mass media. Topics include understandingdemographic research strategies, comparing international Website e-marketing features, attracting and managing Web site traffic,understanding effective online business marketing strategies, anddeveloping a final e-marketing plan that addresses the components<strong>of</strong> market research and online/<strong>of</strong>fline advertising to “drive traffic”to a Web site.EBUS 630 Social, Legal, Ethical, and Regulatory Issues (3)(Formerly ECOM 670.) A study <strong>of</strong> the protection <strong>of</strong> intellectualproperty on electronic networks through trademarks, copyrights,and patents. Privacy and liability issues are examined in areas thatinclude the handling <strong>of</strong> e-mail, the electronic dissemination <strong>of</strong>data, and the regulatory requirements for the safeguarding <strong>of</strong> confidentiality<strong>of</strong> information.
