ADMISSION AND ENROLLMENT• Pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> English language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency.Applicants who have not received a baccalaureate degree froman English-speaking country must demonstrate English languagepr<strong>of</strong>iciency to be eligible for admission. (A complete list<strong>of</strong> countries recognized as English-speaking is available online atwww.umuc.edu/students/international.) These applicants maysubmit– A minimum TOEFL (Test <strong>of</strong> English as a Foreign Language)score <strong>of</strong> 575 on the written version, 233 on the computerversion, or 90 on the Internet version and a minimum Test<strong>of</strong> Written English (TWE) score <strong>of</strong> 4 (unless the InternetbasedTOEFL is submitted—then no TWE is required);or– A minimum score <strong>of</strong> 7 on the IELTS (International EnglishLanguage Testing System), including the academic writingand academic reading modules.Applicants must arrange to have <strong>of</strong>ficial score reports sentdirectly from the testing agency to the Graduate School <strong>of</strong>Management and Technology. The TOEFL score recoverycode for UMUC is 5804.• Documentation <strong>of</strong> residency status.Applicants must provide a photocopy (front and back) <strong>of</strong> eithera permanent residency card or the first page and visa page <strong>of</strong> avalid passport and Form I-94.International students seeking Form I-20 must be granted admissionthree months before the session start date to register for classes.Merely providing these documents does not ensure admission.An interview may also be required. The <strong>of</strong>ficial transcriptevaluation must be submitted and evaluated before admissionis considered.RestrictionsStudents may be admitted to only one institution in the<strong>University</strong> System <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> at any one time. Students maybe admitted as either graduates or undergraduates, but no onemay hold both classifications simultaneously. A student’s mostrecent application for admission invalidates any previous admission.Students may be admitted to only one graduate program at anytime. Application for admission to a second graduate program isnot permitted until notification <strong>of</strong> resignation has been presentedto the first program. Students admitted to any other graduate programin the <strong>University</strong> System <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> must notify UMUC.Students retain active status for two years (six consecutive sessions)even without being registered in the program. However, after twoyears without a completed graduate course, students must submita new application.Note: Graduate students may take both graduate and undergraduatecourses concurrently.RegistrationWays to RegisterRegistration begins each session as soon as the class schedulebecomes available on the Web and continues until the day classesbegin. Students should check the current Graduate Schedule <strong>of</strong>Classes for the deadlines for registration.Students in some programs (Executive Programs and the Master<strong>of</strong> Business Administration) must register through the program<strong>of</strong>fice for most courses.UMUC <strong>of</strong>fers five ways to register for most courses: onlinevia MyUMUC, by phone via the Interactive Registration andInformation System (IRIS), by mail, by fax, and on-site.ONLINE VIA MYUMUCStudents may register online at https://my.umuc.edu. If a studenthas questions regarding confirmation <strong>of</strong> the registration, the studentshould contact Graduate Advising.BY TELEPHONE VIA IRISStudents are eligible to register by phone via the InteractiveRegistration and Information System (IRIS) if they have alreadybeen admitted to UMUC as a graduate student. (Note: Formerstudents who have not registered for courses within the last twoyears must first be readmitted.) Through IRIS, students may registerby entering all pertinent information via their touch-tone telephone.IRIS provides immediate feedback on course availabilityand the student’s registration.Students may call IRIS at 800-584-9413 daily from 6 a.m. to9 p.m. eastern time.BY MAILStudents may mail their registration to Graduate Advising,<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong>, 3501 <strong>University</strong>Boulevard East, Adelphi, MD 20783.
