Energy about the huge potential of renewable electricity generation in the country! It further goes
on to say that their role would be marginal role even upto 2050!! dcxcvi
While the world is rapidly moving towards increasing the penetration of renewable energy
in electricity generation, India’s energy planners and leaders despite being aware of the potential are
deliberately ignoring the enormous potential of energy conservation and generating grid connected
electricity from new renewable energy sources. They continue to declare that the country must
expand its electricity generation capacity by a whopping five times from the present installed
capacity of 160 GW over the next two decades, and that an overwhelming proportion of it would
come from conventional energy sources. And so they are mindlessly pushing ahead with setting up
extremely polluting coal fired power plants, large hydroelectric projects which render destitute
lakhs of people, and deathly giant sized nuclear power plants.
