EIGHTIN HIS HONORCOUNCIL AS A WHOLE, offered and moved adoption of the followingresolution:WHEREAS, Charles E. Trefurt Jr. was born in Jersey City on March 4, 1939 to Charles E.Trefurt, Sr. and Ann O'Brien. Charles and his two brothers were raised in the GreenvilleSection where they attended St. Paul's grammar school andWHEREAS, Charles E. Trefurt Jr. attended Snyder High School where he was anoutstanding student. He enrolled at Jersey City State College with the dream of a career ineducation; andWHEREAS, on September 9,1962 Charles married the former Angelina Petroccia. Theirunion has been blessed with two sons, Charles and Joseph; andWHEREAS, Charles E. Trefurt Jr. began his career in the Jersey City Public SchoolSystem in September 1966 as a teacher of history/economics at Dickinson High SchooL.During his early years in the system, Charles earned a Masters Degree in Education fromSeton Hall University; andWHEREAS, Charles E. Trefurt Jr. rose thorough the teaching ranks and became a Dean,Assistant Principal and ultimately Principal of School #8 in 1976, where he served withdistinction for more then 27 years. In 2003, he became a special assistant to theSuperintendent; andWHEREAS, a lifelong Jersey City resident, Charles found the time, while raising his ownfamily, to serve his community. His community service has included the chairmanship oftheGreenville Hospital Board of Trustees and membership on the Housing Authority Board andBoard of Alcoholic Beverage Control; andWHEREAS, after over fort years in education Charles retired on October 1, 2006. TheJersey City Public Schools recently named P.S. No. Eight in his honor.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Municipal Council ofthe City of JerseyCity does hereby honor Charles E. Trefurt, Jr. for his many years of dedicatedservice to the City of Jersey City on the occasion of the naming of P.S.
