If onceI have thy name written in thy blood, then I can hold thee by thatwhich above all sways a man; then shall I have drawn thee over tomyself.” For whoever has mastery over the blood is master of theman himself, or of the man’s ego. 9I have already mentioned the effects of alcohol on the “I” in theblood. What about HIV infection, cancer, leukemia, and other immunologicaldiseases that poison our blood? Many theories have come out about theHIV virus. The uniqueness of this retrovirus is that it seems to reverse itselfand eventually become part of the DNA system of the host; therefore, ithides itself within the most powerful defense system of man, within the T4lymphocytes. While the virus grows within the infected cell, other T4 cellscannot detect the invaders. In a way, the T4 cells cannot differentiate the“I” (the healthy cells) from the “not-I” (the infected cells).
