2. What lives in our “blood”?For, as a matter of fact, the entire human being is continually drawingits sustenance from the blood, and at the same time he dischargesinto it that for which he has no use. A man’s blood is therefore atrue double ever bearing him company, from which he draws newstrength, and to which he gives all that he can no longer use. “Man’sliquid life” is therefore a good name to have given to the blood; forthis constantly changing “special fluid” is assuredly as importantto man as is cellulose to the lower organisms … the whole cosmoslives in the form of a crystal. … The blood vessels, together with theheart, are the crystal. … The blood vessels, together with the heart, are the expression of the transformed etheric body. … In the bloodlies the principle for the development of the ego. … Whatever powerit is that wishes to obtain the mastery over a man, that power mustwork upon him in such a way that the working is expressed in hisblood. If, therefore, an evil power would influence a man, it must beable to influence his blood. This is the deep and spiritual meaning ofthe quotation from Faust. This is why the representative of the evilprinciple says: “Sign with thy blood thy name to the pact. If onceI have thy name written in thy blood, then I can hold thee by thatwhich above all sways a man; then shall I have drawn thee over tomyself.” For whoever has mastery over the blood is master of theman himself, or of the man’s ego. 9I have already mentioned the effects of alcohol on the “I” in theblood. What about HIV infection, cancer, leukemia, and other immunologicaldiseases that poison our blood? Many theories have come out about theHIV virus. The uniqueness of this retrovirus is that it seems to reverse itselfand eventually become part of the DNA system of the host; therefore, ithides itself within the most powerful defense system of man, within the T4lymphocytes. While the virus grows within the infected cell, other T4 cellscannot detect the invaders. In a way, the T4 cells cannot differentiate the“I” (the healthy cells) from the “not-I” (the infected cells). Thus one slowlyloses the defense, becomes susceptible to a host of infections, and eventuallydies from the multiple attacks. Dr. Bernardo Kaliks in the Mercury Journal(#9) cites Steiner by saying that “silica is the physical foundation for the I-organization,” and according to Dr. Kaliks, our “immunological processesare connected with our lower silica-organism. In AIDS this silica process is294
