Their language proficiency was determined bythe Michigan Test of English Language Proficiency. The instrument tocollect data on students’ self -regulation was Motivated Strateg ies forLearning Questionnaire (Printrich et al., 1991), the findings revealing thatstudents gained higher self-regulation as the result of concept mappingstrategy teaching. A non equivalent control group design under thequasi-experimental research was used in which a random sample of fourco-educational secondary schools was used. The four schools wererandomly assigned to four groups. Each school provided one Form Twoclass. The study sample was comprised of 156 second grade students in thesecondary school cycle (Form Two students) in Gucha District, Kenya.Students in all the groups were taught the same biology content but twogroups.
