In particular, he stressed <strong>the</strong>need for smooth interplay and an appropriateexchange <strong>of</strong> information between supervisorsand central banks.TEN YEARS OF EMUThe European Parliament also contributed to<strong>the</strong> discussion on <strong>the</strong> first ten years <strong>of</strong> EMU(see Box 12). On 18 November <strong>2008</strong> it adopteda resolution setting out its views that <strong>the</strong> firstten years <strong>of</strong> EMU had been a success, with <strong>the</strong>single currency enhancing economic stabilityand integration in <strong>the</strong> euro area countries. At<strong>the</strong> same time, <strong>the</strong> Parliament considered thatmore needed to be done to reap <strong>the</strong> full benefits<strong>of</strong> EMU, in particular as regards <strong>the</strong> pursuit <strong>of</strong>structural reforms and sound fiscal policies.The President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ECB concurred thatstructural reforms and prudent fiscal policieswere crucial to ensure <strong>the</strong> smooth functioning <strong>of</strong>EMU.
