Submission of Recommended Nomination for Honorary Degree to theBoard of Regentsa. The President shall submit recommendations for the award ofhonorary degree(s) to the Academic and Student AffairsCommittee of the Board of Regents for review.b. The Academic and Student Affairs Committee shall review therecommendations and submit the nominees to the full board forfinal review and approval.II. BOARD OF REGENTS REVIEW OF HONORARY DEGREECANDIDATESA. Honorary degrees shall be awarded upon recommendation of the President ifapproved by the Board.B. The Board shall award no more than five (5) honorary degrees per academic year.C. Honorary degrees shall not be awarded to <strong>University</strong> officials, faculty, and staffwhile they are employed at the <strong>University</strong>.D. Honorary degree recipients must attend the degree conferring ceremony, excepthonorary degrees conferred posthumously, which may be received by arepresentative of the deceased.E. The President shall send a formal letter notifying the honorary degree candidates of theBoard’s intention to award the honorary degree and request a written response from thecandidates within ten (10) days of receipt of the letter.F. A formal citation shall be prepared and read during the awarding of the degree. The list ofcandidates and honorary degrees will be listed in the printed program for the ceremony inwhich the degree is awarded.Approved by the Board of Regents on <strong>July</strong> 11, 2006
