Hence, it isthe responsibility of the student to assure that his/her name appears on the classroster if he/she has officially registered.2.9.4 Advising of StudentFaculty are required to assist students in the development of their academiccurricula. All full-time faculty members are required to be knowledgeable aboutthe essential aspects of the general education and discipline curriculum and knowUniversity procedures which may be utilized to facilitate and to provide accurateand timely advice to the students.Advising of students is a faculty responsibility. The failure to perform thisresponsibility and/or to provide accurate course information represents a seriousdeficiency in the performance of faculty responsibilities.All full-time faculty members are required to assist and to participate in theadvisement process through normal contacts with students during office hoursand in the classroom. All full-time faculty members will be assigned individualstudent advisees.During the advisement process, faculty members may not make written or oralcommitments to students that are unauthorized or inconsistent with Universitypolicies.2.9.5 Absences, Class Attendance and Attendance ReportsAll faculty members are required to meet all of their assigned classes asscheduled and on time. Faculty members are required to make arrangements,with the approval of the Department Chair, in advance of an absence forcoverage of the classes. If a faculty is absent due to illness, the faculty memberis required to notify the Department Chair so that appropriate arrangements canbe made. Faculty members are required to report their absences due to illness ona bi-weekly basis.2.9.6 Faculty Recruitment of StudentsIt is the expectation that all faculty members will assist in the recruitment ofstudents for Morgan State University. Recruitment of students is extremelyimportant to the ongoing mission of Morgan State University and the continuedviability of their respective programs and departments.2.9.7 Attendance at Commencement Exercises, Convocationsand Other ActivitiesAll faculty members at the University are expected to attend thecommencement exercise in academic regalia, and to attend andparticipate in academic regalia in other convocation ceremonies asdesignated by the President of the University. It is the facultymember’s responsibility to acquire the appropriate academicregalia.
