IRBforms, meeting dates and the corresponding deadlines for submittingapplications during the academic year are published on the OSPR website.Please call x3447 for more detailed information.Committee membership in the IRB is diverse with expertise in the sciences,ethics, and other non-scientific areas, thereby fostering a comprehensiveapproach to the protection of human subjects and offering a broadperspective in the review.2.13.1 Animal Welfare Assurance (IACUC)In accordance with the PHS Policy for Humane Care and Use ofLaboratory AnimalsThis Assurance is applicable to all research, research training, experimentation, biologicaltesting, and related activities, hereinafter referred to as activities, involving live, vertebrateanimals supported by the Public Health Service (PHS) and conducted at this Institution, or atanother institution as a consequence of the sub granting or subcontracting of a PHSconductedor -supported activity by this Institution.The <strong>University</strong> maintains an animal facility (4000 sq. ft.) located within the BiologyDepartment that is shared by the faculty in the departments of chemistry, psychology andbiology. This facility has IACUC approval and is staffed by one full time and 2 part timeanimal technicians. The facility is staffed by a consulting veterinarian.The qualifications, authority, and percent of time contributed by the veterinarian(s) who willparticipate in the program are as follows:Veterinary emergency care will be available at all times, and the Veterinarian can becontacted via telephone for assistance with any clinical problem concerning animals,and often interacts with investigators to provide advice and consultation on animalbasedresearch procedures.The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) at this Institution isproperly appointed in accordance with the PHS Policy IV.A.3.a and is qualified throughthe experience and expertise of its members to oversee the Institution’s animal care anduse program and facilities. The IACUC consists of at least five members, and itsmembership meets the composition requirements set forth in the PHS Policy, SectionIV.A.3.b.The IACUC will:Review at least once every six months the Institution’s program for humane care and useof animals, using the “Guide” as a basis for evaluation. Inspect at least once every sixmonths all of the Institution’s animal facilities, including satellite facilities, using the
