PAGE 55 * <strong>Morgan</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> Faculty Handbook2.23.6 Procedures for Payment of Summer Contracts For FacultyIn October, 1992, The Board of Regents approved a resolution to change the academic year from 10months to 9 ½ months, thus allowing faculty members to receive maximum salary support from grantsduring the summer period. In December of 1992, <strong>Morgan</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> faculty members were giventhe opportunity to retain their original 10 month contract or to submit an amendment changing theircontract to 9 ½ months. See Appendices page 99.2.23.7 Policy on Tuition Waiver<strong>Morgan</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> supports the general policy of tuition waiver for persons in the certain categoriesaccording to the specified conditions for each category. Persons receiving educational benefits under thispolicy should be aware that tuition waiver may be considered income by the Internal Revenue Service andmay result in significant tax liability. Approved by the Board ofRegents 08/21/20012.2.3.10 Policy on Disclosure of Student RecordsIt is the policy of <strong>Morgan</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> to comply with the Family Educational Rights andPrivacy Act (FERPA), also known as the Buckley Amendment, concerning the disclosure ofstudent records. This Policy outlines the rights of students and procedures by which studentsmay obtain access to education records. A copy of this Policy shall be provided annually toeach current student with registration materials. See Appendices page 139. Approved by theBoard of Regents 03/11/1999.2.2.3.11 Policy Granting Limited Benefits to Full-Time ContractualEmploymentThis policy grants full-time contractual employees certain leave benefits at <strong>Morgan</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong>. SeePolicy in the Appendices, page 146. The holiday leave component of this policy becomes effective onFebruary 16, 2000. The annual and personal/sick leave component willbecome effective <strong>July</strong> 1, 2000.2.23.12 Policy on Professional Commitment of FacultyA faculty member who accepts an appointment at <strong>Morgan</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> makes a major professionalcommitment to the mission and goals of the institution and its students with the essential components ofinstruction; student direction and advisement; research; professional, public and institutional service; andadministration. These vary in their relative distribution of time according to the particular talents andinterests of the faculty member and the needs of the academic unit as determined by the department chairor other responsible administrator. See Appendices page 149. Approved by the Board of Regents03/20/1996.
