The worker should not necessarily contactonly those groups or individuals who are most responsive to worker efforts. Avariety of techniques is required to “reach out” to the more difficult or “harder-toreach”youth (more fully discussed later in this and following chapters).6. Outreach youth workers should be in regular, often daily contact with the youthworkSupervisor, other youth workers, and members of the Project team. Theyouth worker’s direct exchange of information with police and probation isessential, especially in respect to prevention and control of violent incidents, aswell as his plans for social intervention with specific gang youth.7. Systematic assessment of field situations, especially involving targeted youth,should occur at regularly-scheduled, overall-team as well as youth-worker staffmeetings.8. Rosters and discussions of gang youth and their possible associations with othergang youth should be updated on a team basis every three or four months. Not allviolent gang youth committing crimes are necessarily known to the police. Youthworkers might also not know all of the gang youth served by other team staff, andwho should be targeted. Not all gang youth are necessarily known to probation orthe neighborhood organizer.9. Means are also required to record significant contacts by team members withgang youth served by the Project.
