Community Advisory GroupA group of representatives of local agencies, community organizations, and residents<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g former gang members will be formed to advise and consult with the project staff on thedevelopment of programs. Various members of the Advisory Group will be <strong>in</strong>tegrally <strong>in</strong>volved<strong>in</strong> specific activities of gang control, social support, and provision of social opportunities.Regular meet<strong>in</strong>gs will be convened to discuss project issues and activities.<strong>The</strong> University of <strong>Chicago</strong><strong>Project</strong> development and operations are expected to be facilitated by Professor Spergeland two graduate students. <strong>The</strong>ir functions will <strong>in</strong>clude aid<strong>in</strong>g the flow of communicationamong project team members, assist<strong>in</strong>g component staff members with the implementation ofselected activities, especially as related to social <strong>in</strong>tervention and neighborhood organiz<strong>in</strong>garound the gang problem. <strong>The</strong> University of <strong>Chicago</strong> group will also document projectactivities, especially the process of network<strong>in</strong>g and community mobilization.Professor Spergel’s duties will be the provision of advice and consultation <strong>in</strong> overallprogram development, tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, and troubleshoot<strong>in</strong>g.
