INTRODUCTION1.1 Design ConceptThe River Fane Scheme is a Low Flow Augmentation Scheme which depends on thedevelopment of Lough Muckno as a Storage Reservoir <strong>in</strong> order to supply the waterdem<strong>and</strong> of Dundalk, the Republic of Irel<strong>and</strong>’s sixth largest urban centre located <strong>in</strong>the North Eastern part of the Country. <strong>Water</strong> from Lough Muckno will supplementflow deficiency <strong>in</strong> the River Fane so as to provide the required flows at variouspo<strong>in</strong>ts downstream <strong>and</strong> particularly at the Dundalk U.D.C. Intake at StephenstownCounty Louth.
