PACKAGE PLANT DESIGNUs<strong>in</strong>g the data from the pilot plant evaluation a large scale package aeratedfilter plant was designed <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>stalled at Chesham sewage treatment works.The plant was based on prefabricated relocatable steel conta<strong>in</strong>ers fortreatment, washwater storage <strong>and</strong> pump<strong>in</strong>g, plant control, <strong>and</strong> process<strong>and</strong> backwash air supply.The overall dimensions of each module were governed by the constra<strong>in</strong>tsimposed by transport to site however, an <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> treatment capacity ispossible simply by <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g the number of treatment units as required.The treatment module comprises an aerated treatment section, high ratedownflow polish<strong>in</strong>g filter <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegral pipework <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>strument hous<strong>in</strong>g. Aschematic is shown <strong>in</strong> Fig.4.
