On enter<strong>in</strong>g theStation via the operat<strong>in</strong>g Intake Channel, they can pass through the coarse screensbut are conf<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> the sump outside the B<strong>and</strong>screens. The Intake, B<strong>and</strong>screens<strong>and</strong> entry to the Wet Well are designed on a Tw<strong>in</strong> Stream basis symmetrical aboutthe axis X-X (Fig 6) so that any one half of the Intake-B<strong>and</strong>screen arrangement canaccommodate the entire flow. It is then possible to isolate one side by clos<strong>in</strong>gPenstocks A, B & C <strong>and</strong> pump its contents <strong>in</strong>to the other, <strong>in</strong> the process draw<strong>in</strong>gfish <strong>in</strong>to the base of the Fish Lift. Closure of the penstock at the base of the Lift (D)<strong>and</strong> reversal of the flow from the Fish Lift Pump together with closure of SI. Valve Ewill flood the shaft of the Fish Lift. A sta<strong>in</strong>less steel mesh basket on vertical guides<strong>in</strong> the Fish Lift is then drawn up from below, forc<strong>in</strong>g the fish to rise above it. At thetop of the Fish Lift Shaft an outlet pipe will take the Fish to the downstream side ofthe Control Structure.Fig 6 DownstreamMigration by Fish Lift
