3: Common Controls • Category list: displays all the categories in the file. This type of pane appears in the Combine Files, Difference Wave, and t-test editors. It also appears next to an event list in the Statistic Extraction editor. • Effects: displays the effect of the specification on the data in the file. This type of pane appears in the Segmentation editor. chapter 4 CHAPTER 4ARTIFACT DETECTION Concepts T he Artifact Detection tool is designed to operate on any Net Station Native file. The Artifact Detection tool does not produce an output file; it automatically detects and marks bad channels and bad segments in the input file. Bad channels in good segments are replaced when you run the Bad Channel Replacement tool (see Chapter 6, "Bad Channel Replacement”). Bad channels in bad segments are not replaced, and bad channels and bad segments are automatically excluded when you run the Averaging tool (see Chapter 5, "Averaging”). Modular Interface for Flexible Operation The Artifact Detection specification editor provides a modular and flexible way to detect and mark bad channels or eye-blink or eye-movement artifacts. The specification editor consists of two main modules (see Figure 4-1 on page 50). • The first module is the Threshold Artifact Detection Settings section, where you specify the parameters for detecting bad channels, eye movements, and/or eye blinks. • The second module is the Perform Inferences section, where you specify what inferences to make of the results produced by the Threshold Artifact Detection Settings section (for example, whether to mark segments “bad” if they contain an eye movement or eye blink).
