Isbister has written two books: Better Game Characters by Design <strong>and</strong> Game<br />
Usability. Better Game Characters was nom<strong>in</strong>ated for a Game Developer Magaz<strong>in</strong>e<br />
Frontl<strong>in</strong>e Award. Isbister serves on the advisory board of the IGDA <strong>Games</strong><br />
Education Special Interest Group, <strong>and</strong> on the editorial board of the International<br />
Journal of Human Computer Studies. In 1999, she was selected as one of MIT<br />
Technology Review’s TR100 Young Innovators, most likely to shape the future of<br />
technology.<br />
Jyrki Kaist<strong>in</strong>en, M.A. (Psych.), has been study<strong>in</strong>g several human factors <strong>and</strong><br />
ergonomics areas for last 20 years. He has done numerous projects for public<br />
sector <strong>and</strong> private companies concern<strong>in</strong>g traffic safety, computer-supported collaborative<br />
work, user <strong>in</strong>terfaces, organizational development, workplace design, <strong>and</strong><br />
software development for laboratory work. Currently, he is work<strong>in</strong>g as a researcher<br />
<strong>and</strong> teacher <strong>in</strong> the Psychology of Evolv<strong>in</strong>g Media <strong>and</strong> Technology group, <strong>in</strong> the<br />
Department of Psychology, University of Hels<strong>in</strong>ki, F<strong>in</strong>l<strong>and</strong>.<br />
Aidan Kehoe works at Logitech Inc. He has worked on product <strong>and</strong> middleware<br />
development for peripherals on a variety of systems, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g PC, Sony, <strong>and</strong><br />
N<strong>in</strong>tendo platforms. He is co-<strong>in</strong>ventor of a number of patents relat<strong>in</strong>g to game controllers.<br />
He received his Ph.D. from University College Cork for work <strong>in</strong> the area of<br />
speech <strong>in</strong>terfaces.<br />
Jurek Kirakowski’s specialty is quantitative measurement <strong>in</strong> Human–Computer<br />
Interaction <strong>and</strong> he has contributed numerous books, articles, <strong>and</strong> workshops to<br />
this theme. His major research goal has been to show <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>deed prove how<br />
the quality of use of <strong>in</strong>formation technology products can, <strong>and</strong> should be, quantitatively<br />
measured <strong>in</strong> an objective manner. Dr. Kirakowski <strong>and</strong> his group have<br />
contributed the Software Usability Measurement Inventory (SUMI) <strong>and</strong> the Website<br />
Analysis <strong>and</strong> Measurement Inventory (WAMMI) questionnaires, which are by now<br />

Yvonne de Kort is assistant professor <strong>in</strong> environmental psychology <strong>and</strong> co-director<br />
of the Game <strong>Experience</strong> Lab at E<strong>in</strong>dhoven University of Technology. She received<br />
her Ph.D. <strong>in</strong> 1999 <strong>and</strong> s<strong>in</strong>ce then she has been work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the Human–Technology<br />
Interaction Group. She specializes <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>teraction between humans <strong>and</strong> their<br />
socio-physical environment. Yvonne’s current research focuses on two doma<strong>in</strong>s.<br />
The first comprises spaces, technology, <strong>and</strong> social <strong>in</strong>teraction (e.g., situated social<br />
<strong>in</strong>teraction <strong>in</strong> <strong>and</strong> around digital games, locatedness <strong>in</strong> mediated social <strong>in</strong>teraction).<br />
The second lies at the <strong>in</strong>tersection of spaces, technology, <strong>and</strong> health (restorative<br />
effects of mediated environments, effects of light<strong>in</strong>g on people’s health, mood, <strong>and</strong><br />
mental restoration). Her research has also covered topics <strong>in</strong> persuasive technology<br />
<strong>and</strong> norm activation. Yvonne is <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> several European projects under the sixth<br />
<strong>and</strong> seventh framework. She supervises Ph.D. students <strong>and</strong> postdocs, has published<br />
over 70 papers, has co-organized scientific workshops <strong>and</strong> conferences, <strong>and</strong> reviews<br />
