dimension of the infinitude of consciousness, nor dimension of<br />

nothingness, nor dimension of neither perception nor non-perception;<br />

neither this world, nor the next world, nor sun, nor moon. And there, I say,<br />

there is neither coming, nor going, nor staying; neither passing away nor<br />

arising: unestablished, unevolving, without support [mental object]. This,<br />

just this, is the end of stress.” — Ud 8:1<br />

§ 49. “There is, monks, an unborn—unbecome—unmade—unfabricated.<br />

If there were not that unborn—unbecome—unmade—unfabricated, there<br />

would not be the case that escape from the born—become—made—<br />

fabricated would be discerned. But precisely because there is an unborn—<br />

unbecome—unmade—unfabricated, escape from the born—become—<br />

made—fabricated is discerned.” — Ud 8:3<br />

§ 50. “Among whatever dhammas there may be, fabricated or<br />

unfabricated, dispassion—the subduing of intoxication, the elimination of<br />

thirst, the uprooting of attachment, the breaking of the round, the<br />

destruction of craving, dispassion, cessation, the realization of unbinding—<br />

is considered supreme. Those who have confidence in the dhamma of<br />

dispassion have confidence in what is supreme; and for those with<br />

confidence in the supreme, supreme is the result.<br />

“Among whatever fabricated qualities there may be, the noble eightfold<br />

path—right view, right resolve, right speech, right action, right livelihood,<br />

right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration—is considered supreme.<br />

Those who have confidence in the dhamma of the noble path have<br />

confidence in what is supreme; and for those with confidence in the<br />

supreme, supreme is the result.” — Iti 90<br />

§ 51. “Now these three are unfabricated characteristics of what is<br />

unfabricated. Which three? No arising is discernible, no passing away is<br />

discernible, no alteration while staying is discernible.” — AN 3:48<br />

§ 52. “Monks, there are these two forms of the unbinding property.<br />

Which two? The unbinding property with fuel remaining, & the unbinding<br />

property with no fuel remaining.<br />

“And what is the unbinding property with fuel remaining? There is the<br />

case where a monk is an arahant whose effluents have ended, who has<br />

reached fulfillment, finished the task, laid down the burden, attained the<br />
