Washingt<strong>on</strong>..<strong>University</strong>.students.c<strong>on</strong>sistently.claimed.the.greatest.<br />

learning. gains. (post-course. survey). for. the. same. areas. that. they.<br />

claimed.the.greatest.understanding.in.the.pre-course.survey..This.<br />

result.was.observed.in.relati<strong>on</strong>.to.the.topics.<strong>of</strong>.“ph”.and.“periodic.<br />

table”..The.topic.<strong>of</strong>.dyes.discussed.in.Chem.100.at.HU.was.not.<br />

discussed.in.the.UAF.Chem.100x.class..The.UAF.course.was.used.<br />

develop.a.SENCER.courses.across.the.country..In.some.cases,.the.<br />

SENCER.approach.has.moved.bey<strong>on</strong>d.individual.courses.and.has.<br />

been.applied.to.the.development.<strong>of</strong>.general.educati<strong>on</strong>.programs.and.<br />

to.courses.within.science.majors..The.innovati<strong>on</strong>.diffusi<strong>on</strong>.model.<br />

will.be.discussed,.generally,.as.a.way.to.understand.how.innovati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

can.move.from.innovators.and.early.adopters.to.the.mainstream.or.<br />

majority..The.potential.for.the.model.to.serve.as.a.framework.for.<br />

am<strong>on</strong>g. the. most. successful.. Many. ancient,. e.g.. Herodotus,. and.<br />

modern. historical. reports. have. been. c<strong>on</strong>cerned. with. the. ancient.<br />

Egyptian. mummificati<strong>on</strong>. method.. Nevertheless,. little. effort. has.<br />

been.made.to.explore.this.process.<strong>on</strong>.an.experimental.basis..The.<br />

present.symposium.aims.1).to.present.the.results.<strong>of</strong>.a.large.project.which.tried.experimentally.to.rec<strong>on</strong>struct.the.ancient.Egyptian.mummificati<strong>on</strong>.method.applying.evidence-based.diagnostic.criteria.and.state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art.methodology.(macroscopical,.radiological,.<br />

histological. and. biomolecular. analysis). and. 2). to. bring. together.<br />
