<strong>2017</strong> Côtes <strong>du</strong> <strong>Coeur</strong> Chairs<br />
Welcome to the <strong>2017</strong> Côtes<br />
<strong>du</strong> <strong>Coeur</strong> gala benefiting the<br />
American Heart Association.<br />
Our support of the American<br />
Heart Association (AHA) is<br />
both highly personal and<br />
professional. We have lost<br />
three immediate family<br />
members to heart issues.<br />
Additionally, Dave’s brother<br />
had a valve replacement and<br />
his father, after two heart<br />
attacks, has six stents. It is<br />
easy to see why we have been involved in Côtes <strong>du</strong> <strong>Coeur</strong> for many<br />
years. Kelly’s career as a PhD scientist in research and development<br />
of food and beverage was devoted to heart healthy pro<strong>du</strong>cts by<br />
eliminating and re<strong>du</strong>cing trans and saturated fats and re<strong>du</strong>cing<br />
sugar and sodium <strong>with</strong> Coca-Cola and Frito Lay. Our common<br />
desire to save and improve lives keeps us involved <strong>with</strong> the work<br />
of the AHA.<br />
While we understand that many heart issues are genetic in nature,<br />
we also believe that habits started as children can have a profound<br />
effect on one’s heart later in life. For that reason, we have asked<br />
AHA to focus this year’s message on what AHA, local physicians<br />
and hospitals are doing to impact the heart health of children in<br />
our community.<br />
Deep gratitude and thanks goes out to every sponsor, Open<br />
Your Heart donor, winery, chef and volunteer for helping people<br />
fight and, eventually, win the fight against heart diseases and<br />
stroke. This evening is a culmination of the time and passion of<br />
many people. Special thank you to Barbara Smith, the chair of the<br />
Executive Leadership Team, and Chef Richard Chamberlain, the<br />
Chef Executive Chair for more than 20 years, for their incredible<br />
contributions to tonight’s success.<br />
