Classification: angiotensin II
receptor antagonist
IFU: High blood pressure
Action: The angiotensin II
receptor blocker works by
relaxing the blood vessels.
Dosage: 12.5 mg, 40mg, 80 mg
Route: P.O.
Adverse Reaction: Severe
allergic reactions (rash; hives;
itching; difficulty breathing;
tightness in the chest; swelling
of the mouth, face, lips, or
tongue; unusual hoarseness);
chest pain; confusion; decrease
in sexual ability; decreased,
difficult, or painful urination;
Interactions: Aliskiren: Using
aliskiren together with
telmisartan may increase the risk
of serious side effects such as
kidney problems, low blood
pressure, and high potassium
levels in the blood. High levels
of potassium can develop into a
condition known as
hyperkalemia, which in severe
cases can lead to kidney failure,
muscle paralysis, irregular heart
rhythm, and cardiac arrest.
These medications should
generally not be used together,
particularly if you are diabetic
or have preexisting kidney
problems.
