Classification: Monophasic oral<br />

contraceptive<br />

IFU: Oral contraceptive<br />

Action: Prevents ovulation and<br />

causes changes in cervical mucus<br />

and uterine lining, making it<br />

harder for sperm to reach the<br />

uterus and harder for a<br />

fertilized egg to attach to the<br />

uterus.<br />

Dosage: Desogestrel 0.15 mg,<br />

Ethinyl estradiol 0.02 mg, 0.01 mg<br />

Route: P.O.<br />

Adverse Reaction: Abdominal<br />

pain, irregular menstrual<br />

periods, anxiety, change in vision,<br />

chills, constipation, cough<br />

Interactions: Carbamazepine:<br />

May reduce blood levels and<br />

effect of desogestrel. If using<br />

low-dose oral contraceptives,<br />

may have an increased risk of<br />

breakthrough bleeding and<br />

unintended pregnancy.<br />
