Oliver planned to come on another horse and take<br />

it back.<br />

The horse Dr. Parrot was to ride was used to<br />

ladies, and was considered perfectly gentle and<br />

safe, but for some unknown reason, when she<br />

mounted him, he began to rear and pitch furiously,<br />

not only throw<strong>in</strong>g her off, but fall<strong>in</strong>g upon her <strong>in</strong><br />

such a way that the saddle struck across her arms<br />

and chest with such force as to bend the horn out<br />

straight. When her friends picked her up and<br />

carried her to the house, they feared she was dead.<br />

She rega<strong>in</strong>ed consciousness, but could not speak<br />

above a whisper. When someone suggested they<br />

send for a doctor, she replied, "No! A doctor can<br />

do me no good. Send for the m<strong>in</strong>isters at the tent. If<br />

they come and pray, the Lord will heal me."<br />

Just as Elder Bourdeau and I were about to<br />

open our even<strong>in</strong>g service, Oliver arrived with Dr.<br />

Parrot's request. Th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g it unwise to send our<br />

congregation home, we promised to come as early<br />

as possible <strong>in</strong> the morn<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
